Paper Proposal

It would be ideal to study the complex workings of the preschool society. Little kids have such a different out look on life. I want to see if this has any effect on the way they interact with each other, compared to adults. Many kids act differently when their parent or another adult is in the room. I don't think this happens as much with the very young kids. They are always looking for some one older than them selves to direct them, so this would pose as an obstacle. I would have to let the children direct me in every way i can allow them to. I would have to refrain from doing anything other than what they are doing. My notebook would even be a distraction to many of them. This problem will have to be dealt with in the field, because i don't know how they will react to it just yet. It would have to go through the teachers, but it would probably be a good idea to have a child be my broker. They would be the ones i would ask most of my questions to. Interviews should be mostly the kids in the class, possibly a the teacher, or some parents. It would be fairly easy for me to observe the kids at several different times in the day. I could use a work day to see their morning, and on the days I don't go to St. Olaf, I could see the afternoons. My two options for Preschools are the Small wonders one in town, or the one at St. Wenceslaus church. It might be better to go to both, or compare an older grade to theirs. Parents would have to be notified in each class room i go into. Limiting the classrooms is a good idea. To make it simpler, i should inform the parents that i won't use the real names of the children in the paper. I think that would ease the concerns of many parents. I want to really be able to understand how little kids interact with each other, compared to how adults interact.
